Why eat vegetables when they're in season?

Eating vegetables when they are home grown and in season is better for your health, good for the planet and financially savvy.

Good for the environment

If you buy vegetables when they're in season they're more likely to have been grown close to home. On the other hand, if you eat things when they're not in season they'll have been transported for miles - sometimes halfway across the world.

This can have a detrimental impact on the environment. Choosing home grown, seasonal vegetables is a better choice for the environment.

Good for you

Vegetables eaten when they've been harvested closer to home are usually fresher. This means they'll have retained more of their nutrients.

Choosing to eat seasonally can also mean that you try new things and eat a wider variety of veggies.

Saves you money

Veg that has been transported for many miles, sometimes by air, often costs more. It can be much cheaper to buy seasonal home-grown vegetables.
