Save money, help the planet and support local growers by eating with the seasons. Check out my July seasonal vegetable guide to find out what's in season this month.

Some of my favourite vegetables are in season in July.

Tomatoes, broad beans and new potatoes abound.

Plus lettuces and cucumber for delicious salads, lovely young carrots and - my favourite - courgettes.

Don't miss the chance to eat the courgette flowers as well - if you've grown your own you'll have the best chance of this.

Why eat seasonally?

There are so many reasons why it's a good idea to eat with the seasons.

  • They taste better - it's more likely that you'll be eating them nearer to where they were produced - which means you'll be eating them fresher.
  • Seasonal veg are better for the environment. There's no need to import vegetables from other countries, or even the other side of the world, if you eat what's in season in your home country right now.
  • You'll save money.
  • Greater variety - eating seasonally means you'll try new things.
  • Support local farmers and grocers.

If you receive a vegetable box or bag delivered to your house you'll probably be familiar with eating seasonal vegetables.

If not, look out for the vegetables below in your local greengrocer or supermarket this July.
